I tried the diapers out on Ethan.   They weren’t the best diapers, but they didn’t leak and weren’t nearly as bad as some other store brands I have bought.   That being said I would definitely keep my eyes open for sales.

I hope these are okay diapers, b/c I am VERY name brand loyal, especially when I often get Huggies or Pampers for $5 or less a pack.  I will try a few on Ethan and if they work okay I will keep my eyes open for more Walgreen diaper sales!

Right Gaurd Bodywash all 4 were $1.77 after tax.  I had a RainCheck for Buy OneGet One Free and 2 Buy One Get One Free Q.  My Q was good up to $3.49 I think so I paid the difference and of course the tax.

Snickers eggs- 2/ for $1..had $1/off 2 Q==FREE

Resese Eggs- $.39 each…these are must haves for our Easter baskets!

Cadbury eggs$.39 each

M&M’s $1.50 a bag- had Manufacturer Q $1/off 2 and then an in-store Q $1/2. The original sale was 2/for $5.

2 Small pack lifesaver jelly beans $.50 each…in store Q save $1/ on 2 lifesaver.  The manager was not happy about having to override the sale for the Q.

It isn’t my fault that the producers of the store Q didn’t know there were small packs of lifesaver easter candy.  This is once again the anti-couponing attitude I frequently get from Walgreens.  I was using a legitimate coupon that didn’t state any size/oz requirements and matched it to the proper product for a good deal.

It is this attitude that really keeps me doing most of my shopping at CVS!

I don’t have a photo, but I bought 4 bottles of gillette bodywash back when they were $4 and you got 4 RR.  I had BOGO coupon and $1 off 1 Qn so I spent somewhere around $6 after tax.

The next week I bought a pack of goody headbands that were free after RR.

I had planned to buy milk, but instead ended up flipping for2- graham crackers, 2 packs -hershey chocolate bars &2- marshmallows b/c we need all of that to make smores while on vacation.  I had 11 RR and got and the above were on sale where buy graham crackers & hershey get marshmallow free.  That was an okay deal b/c they were very over priced, even with the other on sale!  I think I paid $7.21 for all three items and had more RR so I decided to do it again.   Not as cheap as Aldi, but I needed to us them up b/4 the RR expired.  And we HAD to have smores while camping!

Okay, if you have read anything on my blog about Walgreens you know I don’t them.

I have had a new idea about Walgreens.  I decided to dabble with Walgreens a little…

my thoughts are to go in and buy what ever the FREEBIE of the week is and then turn around and use the Register Rewards Money to buy milk.

I don’t like keeping up with their RR b/c they expire within 2 weeks and often staff is unwilling to override expired RR.  CVS is much forgiving about using expired ExtraCareBucks.   So since we drink milk I think I will flip for milk!

This week the freebie was

placker’s flossers $2 get 2 RR back

Skintimate shave cream $2.99 get $3 RR back

I had stopped by earlier in the week and looked for freebie items on my way to Harris Teeter.  The one I stopped at only had shave cream in stock so I bought that and held onto my RR for later.   Went in Friday while on my way to HT again and found shave cream and flossers.

I went across the street and did my shopping at HT and after I was done I went back to Walgreens to get my milk.  I know I could have done it all at one time.  But sometimes when I am alone I tend to take my time grocery shopping.   I also forgot my cooler bad and didn’t want to leave the milk in the van.    I am not sure if I was supposed to buy milk with the RR b/c dairy was included in fine print of excluded items.  The RR scanned with no problem and the cashier didn’t say anything so I am not sure if the cashiers just don’t care or what.  Anyway I will see how this goes.

Okay that isn’t too impressive so let me run the numbers not including Davis’  Zhu-Zhu Pet birthday gifts:  $24.76

& Generic Sudafed : $10.00 …hey it is almost spring and I like to breathe occasionally!

I also have a separate budget to fund birthday gifts and Rx so the above numbers don’t count toward my monthly grocery allocations which does include health, beauty, pet food, paper products, occasional diapers & formula.

So let’s try those # again not including above items

Spent $7.58

(could have been less but I forgot to use some of my ECB or my giftcard!)

Saved: $57.95

PRICE  ADJUSTMENT

I didn’t include this in the above photo b/c  I actually paid for them yesterday.  Do you remember where I said that I bought four, but only 1 of the four packs printed out my ECB.  I decided since I had to go to Sam’s and I had forgotten to buy Sudafed yesterday I would see if the CVS on Wendover across from Costco had the right packages.  Sure enough the nice young cashier simply returned the other three that were SUPER absorbancy and then re-rang these and VOILA 6 more ECB printed out.  So if you go make sure you use get the REGULAR abosorbancy…no wings or deodorant!   So b/c I got those extra 6 ECB it lowered my total OOP expense in the next transaction.  This deal is also going on next week so if you use the BOGO Qn from 1/03 and then print 2 $1. off Qn you end getting all 4 packs for FREE plus making money!  I just bought more off of ebay so I should be able to stock up more next week by using “Brad’s Card.”

“Brad” bought the Olay Regenerist Cleanser, jergens travel size lotion, and aveeno travel lotion

He had a $3. off Qn for the regenerist and a CVS qn save $2/off $10 skincare.  The cleanser was only $7, so I added the cheapest “skincare” fillers I could find to use both Qn for maximum savings.  I got both for $6.28 + tax. On to the real deal!

*******************************************************************************************************************************

Have you ever wondered what you can get for $.48 and a few ECB and Great Qn’s!

On this order alone I saved $51.96 between ECB earned yesterday and Qn.

So here goes my explanation I used 4 manufacturer Qn, 1 CVS qn and 21 ECB…I think!

*Venus Embrace razor $6 (clearance item, not all were on clearance)

– $ 2. off Manufacturer Qn

-4 ECB promo=  FREE

* Olay Regenerest on Sale $19.

-$3.00 Man. Qn

– $ 2.00/ off $10. 00 or more purchase of skincare = $15.00

(most of my ECB went to pay for this and cover the $4. to pay on razor)

*Olay Quench body lotion $8.99

-FREE with purchase of Olay Regenerest Moisturizer

*Olay Body wash $8.99

-FREE with purchase of Olay Regenerest Moisturizer

so total for above picture was $17.48 which I used 17 ECB + $.48 to pay for everything!

I am not sure if the ECB are supposed to cover tax.  Sometimes they seem to other times they don’t.

The above deal is what I was ranting about with Walgreens a few nights ago.  I tried to do the exact same deal same 3 items, same 3 manufacture Qn’s and was told it would work.  The registered beeped at the cashier at CVS and all he did was right in the amount of the free item on the Qn and then punched it into the register.  No needing anyone to OVERRIDE anything.  CVS will be reimbursed for everything!  I don’t think I was misusing the Qns.  I think the cashiers at that particular Walgreens aren’t accommodating of couponers.   I don’t see why they care.  They are getting paid plus a handling fee for every Qn they deal with.  Now I am feeling really jipped b/c I didn’t walk away with my free bodywash from the other night.   I think Proctor & Gamble set the Qn’s up like they did so they could move new Olay items off of the shelf.   I was hesitant about buying the cleanser and moisturizer.  I bought the scrubbing cleanser back during HT super doubles when it was on sale.  I really like it and decided to take the plunge and buy the moisturizer.  After using the moisturizer a few days I decided to buy another bottle of each b/c when I run out there may not be Qn floating around for them.  I don’t really like trying new facial items!

Another side note all of the FOUR olay items count towards a rebate that Olay has going on- buy 3 olay products and get $15 back.  As of right now I have gotten most of my items for free or very cheaply.  After I get the rebates back they will have all been for free!

There are is also an other Proctor &U Gamble promo where spend $50 in PG items get $100 in Qns.  I have bought lots of items lately that should get me to my minimum very easily.  I would have been there already, except I didn’t think to ask for duplicate reciepts.  All of the Olay products count toward the PG coupon promo, but I would rather have cash in hand then Qn’s!

****************************************************************************************************************************

I know CVS can be very confusing, but if you are wondering how and where to get started I would head on over to

http://www.southernsavers.com   Jenny has a whole section on getting started.  CVS isn’t that confusing as long as you start out slowly and don’t worry about doing everything perfectly in the beginning.  Maybe you walk in and only buy toothbrushes or toothpaste the first few weeks and then add in as you start to get the hand of it.  Very quickly you will have plenty of toothpaste and toothbrushes all for free after ECB that you roll for next week.   Don’t forget tax…NC taxes everything.  But can you imaging getting Nivea lipbalm for the cost of tax?  Or $4 toothbrushes and only pay tax?  CVS is much easier to get started than Walgreens.  There ECB (store credits) don’t expire as quickly as Walgreens.  Usually you have about 3 weeks before they expire.  If you are worried you will forget to use them, then buy all you ECB stuff first and then buy whatever else you need/want and use you ECB to cover part of that transaction.  That is what I did for a long time, b/c I only went in on occasion.

Walgreens 3-9-10 March 10, 2010

UGHHHHHHHHH

Have I mentioned how much I don’t like Walgreens.  Tonight was another night!  I am so disgusted.  It seems to be their personal mission to not accept coupons and to question almost any Qn that comes their way.  I was very infuriated. I am on the fence again about shopping there!

Sales people have consistently been rude.  They have argued over many coupons, only b/c they didn’t scan the appropriate item or store Qn.

I have been lied to many times.  When all was said and done I had told them what I thought.  I told them there was a reason why I don’t consistently shop there.  They can’t compete with CVS when it comes to coupon policy and general niceness.  Of course the clerks weren’t happy about my comments.  But I don’t really care.  When cashiers feel it is their right to SET ME Straight on coupon usage (although they have probably never used a Qn before) I am not going to be kind.  I have tried playing dumb and let them set me straight before, but when they aren’t telling me the same things it is hard to take them seriously!

FYI I was at the Walgreens across from Harris Teeter on McKay Dr.  The only Walgreens i have been to where people weren’t rude was the one right beside UNCG.  Maybe I will try that one later, but I doubt I will go to that one again.  Which is so sad  b/c  it would be so much more convenient to go to Walgreens while out at HT.  Enough rambling here is my totals

Spent$21.60

Saved $40.15

total value $61.75

65% savings

Should have saved another $4 but my 4 of my RR had expired on Monday.  Walgreens sets you up so that you come in every 14 days or they expire.  CVS usually gives you 3 weeks with their ECB which means I don’t have problems with stuff expiring, or having to suck it up and buy not so good deals just so I don’t loose my store credit.  Also CVS would have pushed it through if it had only been expired by a day or so!

I also should have walked away with an Olay bodywash, but that was the Qn that we were having the disagreement about.  The cashier was saying I couldn’t use the Qn for the free body wash if I was also using a Qn for a free Olay lotion.  They didn’t get that the Qn didn’t state they couldn’t be purchased together.  They also tried telling me I could use a $3 off Olay facial moisturizer b/c the label on the moisturizer didn’t say “FACIAL” moisturizer.  Never mind that the moisturizer matched the picture exactly!  In the end the register was beeping to reject the coupon b/c she hadn’t scanned the item that the Qn was being used on.  Let’s not forget that the register didn’t reject the other Qn for the Olay body wash, it merely needed the cashier to write  in the $$ amount for the free body wash.

I was hot when I left there last night.  A co-worker of my husband’s sister is the manager there and from what he has told Brad it seems to her mission to not let anything get through.  That is fine.  I just won’t do any more business at your location!  So those extra filler items that I do buy will just sit on the shelf.  And the other overpriced stuff that I do buy can be purchased at CVS or Walmart!  Or if nothing else I will stick to going to the one by UNCG!

Crazy CVS & Walgreens Week starting 2-21-10 March 2, 2010

What a crazy week.  I usually try to limit myself to one trip to CVS and one trip to Walgreens if a great deal is going on.

This week I did my usual trip and did well at both stores, but found out on Tuesday that CVS was running an unadvertised deal on Huggies baby wipes $2.50, not the little packs but the MEGA packs with around 200 wipes.  When all was said and done I had bought 15 packs!  I bought 6 for a friend who is having a baby and has a little one in diapers.

Once again I will try to list what I can but between this deal and HT Super Doubles and my ENTIRE family being sick my memory is failing me and I had LOTS of receipts!

Brad & Regina CVS:

each of us bought:

ear rinse @ $7.99 got back $7.99 ECB

Almay eyeshadow used $2. Manufacture Qn from paper

got back 2 ECB

Brad had more starting ECB so he bought the babywipes $2.50

total for both were less than $14 got back 20 ECB will come in handy to buy all those wipes later in week!

Walgreens: $9.87 + got back 9 RR

Venus Razor, used $2. Man Qn, got back 4 RR (I think!)

got olay body wash FREE with purchase of Venus Razor

Excedrin $2.50 used ManQ $1. = $1.50 got back 2 RR

Hairbands $2.99 got back 2 RR

CVS wipes & Lotrimin spent $18 OOP, ($16 spent for a friend),  used 20 ECB from previous day transaction total should have been around $55!

Walgreens bought $.99OOP after $4. Man. Qn & 4 RR from previous day, got back 4 RR

It was a busy week!  Time to get back to normal shopping.

Walgreens two trips 2-12 & 2-13-10 February 17, 2010

2-12-10

I still have very mixed feelings about Walgreens!  I got all of the above for

$16.23 OOP,  got back 18 RR

had problems using RR so tried again on Saturday 2-13-10

I went home and read up a little more on how Walgreens system works.  RR count as Manufacturer Qn.  They have a limit of 1 Qn, per each item purchased, so since I was using Qn for each item, the register wouldn’t accept my RR.    Saturday went much smoother b/c I went in and found many filler items and didn’t have any problems other than when I bought two packs of diapers in the same transaction it didn’t print out the second 3 RR for the diapers.  Apparently they couldn’t be run in same transaction.

trip two went in armed with more Qn’s and better understanding how to work the system!

started with yesterday’s 18 RR

$10.68 OOP

got back 5 RR,

(should have gotten back another 3 but messed up with the diaper transaction!)

total for both days $26.91

saved $92.78 after Qn and RR

78 % savings

Not bad, but so much hassle!
